The Spiritual Gift of Naps

Jesus was known to pull the occasional prayer all-nighter; but he was also the kind of guy who could get so exhausted, that he slept through a rising gale and sudden storm that threatened his friend’s fishing boat.

That little nap says something about how tired the real human Jesus was; but it also says something about his worldview. Jesus knew that God was in control. He knew that sleep is a gift from God. He knew confidence that allowed him to sleep, even through the storm.

Jesus’ first question when he was roused from that maritime siesta was not, “Why didn’t you wake me sooner?”

Instead, Jesus yawned and asked, “Where is your faith?”

I invite you to exercise your spiritual gift of naps today. Zonk out for an hour or two. God’s got this.

Psalm 127:2 (NIV)

[The LORD] grants sleep to those he loves.

Prayer

Now I lay me down to sleep; thank you, Jesus.
Amen.
